Crohn's Disease-A Chronic Inflammatory Disease Of The Intestines

Crohn's Disease is basically an ongoing disorder and can be define as a chronic inflammatory disease of the intestines. It affects both men and women similarly and sometimes run into some families at the same time. It also called ileitis or enteritis and can be associated with reddish tender skin nodules, inflammation of joints including eyes, liver and spine. The rising rate of this disease in United States is 10 times in case a person has a relative with the same disease. In 1932 a physician describes this disease and named it Crohn's disease.

It is also known as granulomatous enteritis or colitis, regional enteritis and ileitis or terminal ileitis. Crohns diseases can affect anyone and occurs in people of all ages, but is more often affects between the ages of 20 to 30 years of the people and affects any area of a human body from the mouth to the anus. It can also be defined as a heredity disease and inflammatory disease of intestine. It is more common in men than women

Among the people of Jewish heritage than other ethnic or social groups the rate of Crohn's disease is increasing; commonly in relatives of patients and about 25% of people with this disease having a blood relation as brother or sister and sometimes a parent or child. Although it is more common in between the age of 20 to 30 but sometimes it can occurs in new born babies also from their mother if at the time of pregnancy mother is affected with the disease. It commonly affects the lower part of the small and large intestine which also called the ileum.

Causes and Symptoms of Crohn's disease

Though reasons for this disease are not completely understood but among the relatives of a Crohn disease patient it is more common with ulcerative colitis. The most common cause for the disease is that the human body's immune system reacts abnormally in people affected with the disease, mistaking bacteria, foods and other substances for being foreign. Children who do get the disease are sometimes more severely affected than adults, with slowed growth and delayed sexual development in some cases.

Symptoms of Crohn's disease vary from person to person but some common crohn's symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramps & pain often in the lower right section of the abdomen, rectal bleeding, loss of appetite and subsequent weight loss along with loose, watery or frequent bowel movements. Those who are having the disease also experience the skin problems, arthritis, fever, fissures, or tears in the lining of the anus include oral or skin lesions, inflammation of the liver or bile ducts and delayed growth or sexual development in children.
